KINDNESS IS POWER: STANDING STRONG AGAINST BULLYING

Hey kids it’s Guapo. How are you doing? I wanted to check in to make sure that everything is good with you. As you may know, October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and I have some good tips for you. Bullying is when someone hurts or mistreats someone else on purpose and usually more than once.

If someone calls you names or laughs at you when you’re sad, that’s bullying.

Here’s a good strategy: Stop. Stay calm. Look the bully in the eye and use a strong voice to say “Stop it” or “That’s not okay.”

Stand tall, be confident.

Stick with friends, bullies often pick on kids who seem scared or unsure.

Walk away: Leave the situation with confidence, try not to run or cry.

Talk: Tell a trusted adult–teacher, parent, counselor. It’s not tattling if someone is getting hurt, whether it’s you or someone else. It’s being brave and protecting yourself or others. Telling is helping.

Try asking the bully, “How would you feel if someone did that to you?”

Sometimes kids who bully other kids might be dealing with anger or frustration, fear of being left out, and some kids bully to try and impress friends to fit into a certain group.

That’s why empathy is so important, it helps kids understand feelings. Their own and others.

Remember that kindness is always a winner. Kindness shows people that they matter, whether it’s sharing, smiling, or saying “thank you.”

You have the power to make someone’s day!

Love to you all,

Guapo
